I have been doing
Genealogical research in Slovakia for several years and found many
families in Slovakia. It costs anywhere between $ 1500.00 and $ 2200.00
depending on the season to fly from Vancouver, British Columbia to Munich or Vienna.
The car rental: For last five years I rent directly in Bratislava from a
great local company ADVANTAGE CAR RENTALS
and the monthly rental for a ŠKODA standard shift car without air conditioning
is less than US$600.00 including all taxes.
The gas at the present time is 44.20Sk per liter, due to go up
again soon, my fall gas bill was $ 1200.00 and I did about 12400 Km.
Hotels, I do use them sometimes. As I also have Slovakia's passport I get room as a citizen at substantial savings and the room may be from
$80.00 to
$ 120.00.
Food $ 900.00 to $ 1200.00 per month.
So if I add all the costs not counting the hotels, my cost per day in Slovakia is approximately $
250.00 all-inclusive. When I do a genealogical research, my charges are as follows:

TRAVELING
This means anywhere in
Slovakia.
INTERVIEWING
conducted in Slovak, translated to English, written report provided. In many cases the relatives live in neighboring Villages, I go
and locate them too. This would include a visit to cemetery and photographs
of all graves with your family, visit to the church if I can get the keys,
photographs of Church too.
VIDEO
DVD
video of my visit questions in Slovak and answers all translated to
English. I have ability to convert the tape
to PAL and tape can be sent to relatives in Slovakia cost is $ 49.95 per tape in their
system plus US$ 6.95 for shipping and handling, Total US$56.90.
PICTURES
One set of 48 color pictures. These will include your family members, church, village, cemetery, the house, grand parents house if I can find it.
You will also get the pictures on a CD with slide show
ARCHIVAL SEARCHES
Searches in the archives are necessary if you want to search
dates prior to 1896.
All records prior to 1896 are in the
archives and from 1896 to present date are located in the Churches and
town halls. Searches in archives are US$450.00 per name and you pay for the search. Usually
preauthorized search is for US$250.00 per name. If the search fee is less
you get a refund. Translations are US$50.00 per page. Fee applies even if
the archive doesn't find anything as they still have to do the searches to
find that there are no records.
